Laura Morlang and her husband John began their foster care journey in British Columbia 7 years ago, adopting their son in B.C. and continuing as a foster family when they relocated to Alberta with their 2 boys. Laura is an active CRFKA board member and member of her community.
Laura is kind, loving, warm, and welcoming to all who know her. She embraces every interaction with a beaming smile and ability to lean in with meaningful listening.
Laura has a gift for considering all perspectives, keeping judgments neutral and having an open door for previous children and their parents as she consciously seeks to strengthen family connections. Part of Laura and John’s joy in foster care is seeing the beauty of watching children they have cared for grow in their natural families after they leave her home. They fluidly transition to another supportive role attending appointments as needed and hosting celebrations together.
Laura said she loves being a mentor and finds it rewarding. She enjoys the diversity of our caregivers and considers mentoring families a privilege as she watches them grow and change the trajectory of a child’s life.
One of Laura’s mentee’s shared that she has been a guiding light during challenging moments. Her guidance, encouragement and kindness stand out as she comes alongside her mentee’s making her a constant source of trusted reassurance.
Laura, we thank you for finding fulfillment, for having the ability to be all in as a foster parent while pacing yourself to get enjoyment out of the time you share with all your children. You have found a rare balance, bringing it all together to meet everyone’s needs, including your mentees while supporting success, radiating kindness and inviting inclusivity.
You are an inspiration for us all. Thank you, Laura.
